Hiking

There are many opportunities for hiking within Wadi Rum. You can hike to the top of the sand dunes, through beautiful canyons, to rock bridges, past ancient inscriptions and to many other beautiful places in the area.  You can climb to the top of Mt. Um Ad Dami where you can see the Red Sea, Saudi Arabia and all the way to the Sinai.  The hikes can be tailored to your ability, from easy to strenuous, and all are with a guide.

 

1 Day Hike to Rakabat:

Starting with a traditional Bedouin tea at my house in Wadi Rum we then hike around 1km to Rakabat. We then pass through this beautiful Canyon before stopping for lunch and tea surrounded by the spectacular Sand Dunes. After a chance to rest from the midday sun, we will see the fascinating two thousand year old rock inscriptions, known as petroglyphs, before returning to Wadi Rum.

 

Prices: 2–4 people 50JD per person, includes guide, meals, and water.

 

2 Day, 1 night Hike:

This hike begins at my house in Wadi Rum for traditional tea. From Wadi Rum we hike to see the impressive sand dunes on the way to Barrah Canyon. These sand dunes are the largest in Wadi Rum and a spectacular sight. We will spend the night within Barrah Canyon sleeping beneath the stars, a memorable and special experience. The following day, after breakfast, we continue through Barrah Canyon until we reach the magnificent rock arch at Burdah where we will enjoy lunch. An enjoyable afternoons walk follows to return to Wadi Rum and a well earned rest.

 

Prices: 2-6 People – 110 JD per person, includes guide, meals, water, and luggage transportation (we will drive it out to your campsite so you don't have to hike with a lot of gear)

 

5 Day, 4 night Hike:

Day 1

Starting from the Wadi Rum visitor Centre we first go to see the famous Seven Pillars. Continuing to the Wadi Um Ishrin where we stop for lunch and to rest. We then hike to the Barrah Canyon where we will eat and spend the night. This presents a chance to sleep beneath the famous Wadi Rum stars.

 

Day 2

After breakfast we will hike to the beautiful Barrah canyon with sand dunes within, before carrying on to the magnificent rock arch in Burdah for a memorable lunch. Following lunch and a short rest we will then climb the arch and camp for the night in Burdah. We will enjoy traditional dinner around the camp fire and a second night beneath the stars.

 

Day 3

This morning after breakfast we hike into the desert between the spectacular mountains in Wadi Nowra. A chance to rest and have lunch in the canyon follows. We then continue hiking to Wadi Sabat which contains Um ad Dami, the highest mountain in Jordon at over 1833m. Here we will eat and spend the night.

 

Day 4

Day 4 brings a chance to climb Um ad Dami following breakfast. The climb taking around 4-5 hours is concluded with a well earned lunch. A hike to Abu Hamad follows where we will spend a final memorable dinner and night.

 

Day 5

Breakfast is followed by the start of the final days hiking via a number of beautiful sites before reaching Um Sabata. Here we have lunch and rest before ending this unique experience with the hike back to Wadi Rum Village.

Equipment Required

For 5 day and longer treks you are required to bring a warm sleeping bag.
